Prime Minister Boris Johnson said anti-racism protests were "subverted by thuggery" as Home Secretary Priti Patel condemned the toppling of a statue of slave trader Edward Colston.

Thousands of anti-racism protesters attended Black Lives Matter rallies across the UK on Sunday which were largely peaceful, although 12 arrestes were made in London following clashes with police which saw eight officers injured, including two seriously.
