Boris Johnson has been urged to set out a robust plan to get more primary pupils back to school amid delays. The PM was forced to admit defeat over plans for all primary schools in England to attend classes before the summer break.
The move has left millions of families in limbo as they struggle to juggle home-schooling with jobs. The former chief inspector of schools in England, Sir Michael Wilshaw, said the Government’s approach to education during the crisis has been an “absolute tragedy” for those most in need.
Around 85% of disadvantaged pupils are not in school while 700,000 children do not have access to a computer for home-learning.
