Boris Johnson is to give a coronavirus press conference at 5pm tonight, the government has announced. The Prime Minister will appear alongside Chief Medical Officer for England Chris Whitty and NHS England chief executive Sir Simon Stevens.
The Prime Minister is expected to talk about the UK death toll. As of yesterday 98,531 people had died within 28 days of a positive test, meaning the official total was in danger of tipping over 100,000 today.
He is not expected to make a new policy announcement. Downing Street intends to give three press conferences per week during the current lockdown, down from seven a week last Spring.
