Boris Johnson has claimed the public don’t want him to “learn the lessons” of coronavirus right now because the UK is still in the middle of the pandemic.

The Prime Minister claimed the time to “reflect and prepare” has still not arrived despite the death toll hitting 100,000. He made the eyebrow-raising claim after saying he did “everything we could” to avoid loss of life from Covid.

Grilling him at PMQs today, Labour leader Keir Starmer said the PM was too slow going into all three lockdowns and on testing, care home rules and Christmas mixing.

SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford added the PM “repeatedly ignored the scientific advice”. After the number of people dying within 28 days of a positive test topped 100,000, Sir Keir said:
