She defeated Patricia McCullough, a Commonwealth Court judge who lost a primary for a high court seat in 2021, after party allies reported spending nearly $1 million to help her beat McCullough.On the campaign trail, McCullough repeatedly boasted of being the "only judge in 2020 in the presidential election in the entire country" to order a halt to her state’s election certification.McCullough was ruling in a Republican-backed post-election legal challenge that sought to tilt victory to Donald Trump in the presidential battleground state.

PHILADELPHIA - Cherelle Parker, a Democrat with a long political history in Pennsylvania, won Philadelphia’s mayoral primary on Tuesday, likely setting her up as the city’s 100th mayor and the first woman to serve in the role.Parker, 50, who served for 10 years as a state representative for northwest Philadelphia before her election to the city council in 2015, asserted herself as a leader whose government experience would allow her to address gaping problems with public safety and quality of life in the nation’s sixth-largest city. PHILADELPHIA - An inmate charged with helping two fellow prisoners escape a Philadelphia correctional facility played lookout while the pair managed pull of the first prison break since 2010, court docs show.Jose Flores-Huerta, an inmate at Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center on charges stemming from a deadly brawl outside Pat's King of Steaks, was charged with Escape and Criminal Conspiracy.New court documents show Flores-Huerta's alleged involvement in the orchestrated prison break of 18-year-old Ameen and 24-year-old Nasir Grant on May 7.It's alleged that moments before the escape Flores-Huerta is seen on video walking around a cell block when he was not permitted to be outside his cell, and checking the guard tower for officers. RELATED COVERAGEThe video also shows Hurst and Grant leaving their cells and crawling to the shower-area of the cell block where they stopped and waited for a signal from Flores-Huerta, according to court docs. From there, Hurst and Grant were able to exit a cell block door into a recreation yard.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities are investigating a stabbing that occurred inside the same Philadelphia prison where two inmates managed to escape more than a week ago. Police say the incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. inside the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center on the 8300 block of State Road.A 28-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in his upper body and transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital.

PHILADELPHIA - The Pennsylvania State Police provided updated totals on recent road-rage related shootings, and they're asking for the public's help in investigating and preventing interstate shootings. In the last three years, authorities say there has been an increase in the number of road rage-related shootings on the interstates surrounding Philadelphia. In 2020, Pennsylvania State Police say they investigated only four interstate shootings, but in 2022, that number spiked to 20. Officials say this year is on pace to match or surpass last year's totals with troopers reporting that they've already responded to ten interstate shootings. There have been a total of 40 reported road rage-related shootings since 2020 and of those 40, eight victims were struck by gunfire, according to State Police.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - A 29-year-old woman accused of using false documents to enroll as a New Jersey high school student and attend some classes over a four-day period will be allowed to enter a pretrial intervention program, a state judge ruled Monday.The woman had pleaded not guilty in March to a charge of providing a false government document. Her lawyer has said she did so because she was lonely and longed to return to her days with friends in school but now realizes she made a mistake.

WASHINGTON - Two staff members were assaulted with a baseball bat at the office of Virginia Congressman Gerry Connolly Monday afternoon. Connolly said in a statement that an individual with a baseball bat entered his office and asked for him, before attacking two members of his staff. Police were on the scene Monday afternoon at the congressman's district office at 10680 Main Street in Fairfax, VA, investigating the incident. The two victims are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. The suspect has been identified as Xuan-Kha Tran Pham, 49, of Fairfax.

DEPTFORD TWP, N.J. - Artists at a Gloucester County tattoo studio used their talents to raise money for the family of fallen Deptford Township police officer Robert Shisler. The Convent Tattoo Studio, located on Superior Way in Deptford, raised over $4K by inking 80 people with thin blue line tattoos on Monday. There were 11 designs to choose from, and each tattoo costed $50 with 100% of the proceeds going to the Shisler family. RELATED HEADLINES "We wanted to bring everyone together for something really cool for a great cause, and it just fell into place. BENSALEM, Pa. - A Bucks County teen is using his differences to build a brand that supports people with special needs and raises money for people with down syndrome. 19-year-old Nolan Slaweski is preparing to graduate from Archbishop Wood High School, and as he walks to the stage in his cap and gown, he'll be holding his head high knowing he has a diploma and his own small business. Two years ago, after Nolan came home from Tim Tebow's Rising Light Ridge camp, he introduced a new saying to his mom, which is how the brand, "Built Different," blossomed. "He knows what he wants, and he went to camp and came home saying, ‘I’m built different,'" said Nolan's mom, Colleen Slawesk. "I thought that's such an amazing thing for him to recognize his differences."Nolan has down syndrome, and he began designing t-shirts, hats, and other items, all branded with his saying, "Built Different." He started selling the merchandise two months ago on World Down Syndrome Day, and he hasn't looked back since. "Everybody is different, just like me," said Nolan.
