COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Court of Appeal on Tuesday (22) ordered the Commissioner General of Lands to NOT abide by the circular that was issued giving control of Other State Forests to Divisional Secretaries.The Commissioner-General of Lands, Director General of Forest Conservation among five others were issued notice to appear in court on the 1st of September to make submissions with respect to the writ application that was filed challenging the said circular.Accordingly, the order on the Commissioner General of Lands will be in effect until the 1st of September.The application challenging the circular was taken up in the presence of Justices Sobitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola.The Centre for Environmental Justice (CEJ) and its Executive Director filed a new writ application in the CA against a government decision to move the `Other State Forest’ from the preview of the Forest Department and hand over them to District and Division Secretariats. .

An investigation concluded no others at McGuire were aware or involved, King said.Four lawsuits by residents or their family members have been settled by the home's insurer, King said."This was a horrible event for everyone involved in McGuire," King said Friday, noting policies were changed and security cameras installed as a result.

HOPEWELL, Va. - Authorities in Virginia on Thursday were still trying to piece together what happened and whether any adults will face criminal charges after seven children took prescription medicine and ended up in the hospital.Police in Hopewell, a small city about 25 miles (40 kilometers) southeast of Richmond, said they were called to a home late Wednesday afternoon, where they found four small children unresponsive. Three more children found in another part of the house were awake, but lethargic.

Talal Aridi, 38 GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Police in Gloucester Township, New Jersey say a child’s awareness at the bus stop helped lead to the arrest of a Megan’s Law registrant who was allegedly taking photos of a teenage girl. On March 22, around 3:30 p.m., Gloucester Township police responded to the are of Pine Glen Drive and Jarvis Road in Sicklerville for a report of a suspicious person taking photos of the teen. Police say Talal Aridi, 38, was taking photos of the girl as she walked to the bus stop when another girl spotted him. That girl then alerted an adult who was at the bus stop. The adult processed to confront Aridi and took photos of his vehicle and license plate before contacting police. MORE HEADLINES: Investigators soon learned that the vehicle was registered to Talal Aridi, who is a Megan’s Law registrant following an attempted luring case from 2019.

It has agreed to accept up to 100,000 people escaping from the war and to increase support for Eastern European nations that have taken in most of the people fleeing Russian forces.While in Brussels to meet with European allies, President Joe Biden said the United States would admit up to 100,000 Ukrainian refugees and provide $1 billion in humanitarian assistance to countries affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.The financial support is important because most of the approximately 3.6 million refugees who have fled Ukraine are in neighboring countries such as Poland, Moldova, and Romania and are posing a substantial burden."This is not something that Poland or Romania or Germany should carry on their own," said Biden, who said he hopes to meet with refugees on his European trip.
