CORONATION Street and Emmerdale have furloughed more than 500 staff amid the coronavirus crisis. The ITV soaps have shut down filming and scaled back the number of episodes aired each week as they adapt to the impact of Covid-19. ⚠️ Read our coronavirus live blog for the latest news & updates With the reduced workload the soaps have moved to furlough staff during the crisis.

A spokesman for the channel told Digital Spy: "Because the soaps have shut down, members of the crew have been notified that their roles are being furloughed in line with the government’s scheme for those who can’t work during the coronavirus crisis." Broadcast confirmed those affected would receive full pay.
