Boris Johnson hopes to push through emergency legislation that gives authorities the power to detain suspected coronavirus patients for six weeks or give them heavy fines.

The PM's proposed new laws will see doctors given the power to hold patients beyond the 14-day quarantine if there is cause for concern - while police can ban certain travel while ordering people into isolation.

It comes as the Government tries to step up its fight against the deadly disease, with attempts to force the 329-page Emergency Coronavirus Bill through in days.
