SIPTU have said the Government's Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment of €203 per week is nowhere near enough. The trade union is calling for 75% of wages to be covered by the Government and the balance covered by employers.
Minister for Social Protection Regina Doherty has acknowledged that the Government's Payment is not enough. Speaking with Cormac Ó hEadhra, she said it was a payment put in place in an emergency and that the Government now recognises that they need to do something different.
Minister Doherty said her department is working on a different approach and she said the Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe would make an announcement in the coming days.
