Homelessness charities have warned the coronavirus pandemic could ‘overwhelm’ them in an urgent letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Two further deaths announced on Friday at Salford Royal Hospital mean eight people have now died across Greater Manchester after being diagnosed with the Covid-19 virus.

In the UK, the death toll now stands at 177. More than 30 homelessness charities have collectively written to the PM warning they face ‘unprecedented challenges’ which will ‘overwhelm them’ if the government doesn’t act fast.

The letter is signed by Centrepoint, a leading youth homelessness charity with a base in Manchester, DePaul, St Mungos Homeless Link and other regional homelessness organisations.
