Casualty viewers are getting ready to say goodbye to an icon as Derek Thompson – who plays Charlie Fairhead – is bowing out after 38 on the show.
Derek, 75, is arguably the most recognisable face from the show after starring in it since the very first episode back in 1986 and being the only remaining original character.
His final scenes will air across two special episodes, airing on 9 and 16 March – but he won't be off screens for long. But what do we know about Derek's life away from the A&E department of Holby City Hospital?
