The three-part ITV drama, Breathtaking, has been nothing short of a huge success, gripping the nation with a fictional version of what frontline life was like for NHS doctors at the height of the Covid pandemic.
However, the emotional storyline is closer to the truth than most would care to believe, with the day-to-day life of Dr Rachel Clarke heavily leaned on from events that happen in her book of the same title.
Dr Clarke spent almost a year volunteering as a NHS frontline palliative care doctor, tasked with caring for patients in their last days as they lay dying from Covid on heaving, virus-riddled wards.
Although lots of fan-favourite scenes featuring Dr Clarke did not actually affect her and were purely for dramatic effect, the real life medical expert has stressed how 'very important' it is that people understand the events unfolding during the show really did happen to someone - whether that be a patient or NHS staff member.
