Miracle baby survives after being born with football-sized cyst under his arm

A mum was devastated when her unborn son was diagnosed with a dangerous birth defect. At her 13 week scan, Christina DiMartino was warned that her unborn child Matteo had a cyst that covered 50% of his body.

Distressingly, the baby only had a 9% chance of surviving labour. The first-time mum and her husband Franco, 36, made the brave decision to pursue with the pregnancy.

Miraculously, the tot survived – but struggled to move his neck and head. After months of battling, there’s hope for the family as surgeons were able to remove the cyst.

Looking back on her pregnancy, Christina recalls how happy she was when she found out she was expecting. The New York-based mum said: "I found out that I was pregnant two days before Franco got a new job
