People over State Pension age living in five council areas will become the first in the country to be eligible for a new disability benefit which is set t replace Attendance Allowance for people in Scotland.

Pension Age Disability Payment will be rolled out in phases from October 21, 2024, starting in Argyll and Bute, Highland, Aberdeen City, Orkney and Shetland.

The benefit will become available in 13 more local authority areas on March 24 next year before rolling out nationwide across Scotland by April 22, 2025.

Pension Age Disability Benefit is for people over 66 who have a disability or long-term health condition that means they need help looking after themselves or supervision to stay safe.
