He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. John Swinney will face MSPs at Holyrood on Tuesday for an update on the August 11 return to class. The Scottish Government is working with councils on a part-time model which could see some children in class for just a day a week.

Pressure is growing for a more ambitious return, but there there is alarm that moving to fast could spark another wave of coronavirus infection.

It comes as there were no new coronavirus deaths in Scotland from Sunday to Monday with the hospital death toll remaining at 2,472.

The number of cases rose by 14 to 18,170. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Boris Johnson had a crunch meeting with the Government’s top scientific advisors on Monday night on changing the 2 metre social distancing rule - increasing the pressure on.
