A nurse who died of tuberculosis after being exposed to the Victorian disease while volunteering on an NHS ward should have been warned of the exposure months earlier, a coroner has ruled in a damning report.

Carrianne Franks, 30, found out less than 24 hours before she died that she had contracted TB. The day before her death she sent a worried text to her parents after she was finally diagnosed to say: "Mum, they found out what I have.

I've got TB." Her family were unable to say goodbye as she was quickly placed in a coma in intensive care, where she died. Her devastated parents Chris and Bev Franks are now calling on more to be done to protect the people who are caring for others throughout the country's hospitals, the Mirror reports.
