The latest Covid figures for Greater Manchester after rise in illness

There were a total of 15,797 new cases of Covid in England in the week leading up to October 7, according to the latest government figures.

It’s the equivalent of 27.9 new cases for every 100,000 people in the country. That’s down from 16,186 cases, or 28.6 for every 100,000 at the same point a week earlier, on September 30.

Cases of Covid had been rising steadily in England since the end of the summer. In the week leading up to August 30 there were 7,787 cases reported, 13.8 for every 100,000 people.
