The UK coronavirus death toll has risen by 1,239 today - as cases drop nearly 10,000 from last week. The total number of cases recorded in the UK today has been confirmed as 28,680 - 9,212 less than a week ago.
A total of 37,892 cases and 1,290 deaths were reported last Thursday. Today's number of deaths is also less than yesterday, when 1,725 were reported.
But the number of cases is slightly higher, according to official figures, increasing from 25,308 on Wednesday. The total number of people who have died within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test is now 103,126.
The new figures come just hours after it emerged that the crucial daily vaccine target has been missed again - as the latest numbers highlight fears of a 'postcode lottery'.
