An Amazon delivery van crashed into a Kilmarnock block of flats last night. The vehicle was jammed under an entry way with emergency services called to the scene on Dean Street. The private flats, which are built over an access road to residents' parking, were hit by the van.The scene was cordoned off by officials and fire crews were spotted trying to prise the vehicle from the crash site. It’s not yet known if residents were evacuated from their homes.Firefighters took air from the van’s tyres to lower the van's height and are used ladders to try and assess the situation. It’s understood that parcels loaded up in the crashed van for delivery were switched into a new van so that deliveries could still be made. It's also reported that a firefighter was tasked with slowly reversing the vehicle from the crash site after lowering the van's height. The crash took place on Prime Day - one of Amazon's busiest days - as the global online retailer slashed prices on a number of goods across its site for its members.Amazon, Scottish Fire and Rescue and Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
