Commuters expressed fury as fellow passengers didn't bother to wear face coverings, some carriages were packed and shorter trains operated while more Britons were expected to return to work today.
Social distancing wasn't being practised on the busiest Tube routes into central London, while passengers in other places shared photos of empty carriages and deserted platforms.
One angry commuter claimed "hardly any passengers" were following the Government's advice to wear a face covering on public transport to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
It came as service levels for buses and trains were being increased to up to 85 per cent of normal levels to carry many more commuters to building sites, factories and offices.
