A doctor has urged people to seek medical advice if they notice a particular sound in their ear, warning it could signal an underlying "sinister" condition that requires treatment.Pulsatile tinnitus (PT) is a rare condition that causes a rhythmic whooshing sound in the ears, often in sync with a person’s heartbeat.

Unlike the more common form of tinnitus, which presents as a continuous ringing or buzzing, PT can vary in severity, some experience mild annoyance, while others find it so "intense and debilitating" that it disrupts their concentration and sleep.Because it directly links to heart rate, many sufferers report the sound intensifying when their heart beats faster and easing when it slows.

While it may seem harmless, experts warn it can serve as an early warning sign of serious medical conditions, including aneurysms and tumours.Dr Ahmed, a British GP, has shed light on pulsatile tinnitus (PT) and urged anyone experiencing it to consult a doctor, Mirror reports.

He emphasised: "It's something you definitely need to bring up with your doctor."Most medical professionals will conduct tests to determine the underlying cause of the condition.
