A Jet2 plane made emergency landing after a passenger died onboard. The flight took off from Tenerife at 7.05pm last night (Friday) and was bound for Nottingham, but was forced to divert to the Spanish mainland after a passenger suffered fatal medical emergency.
The traveller is reported to be in his 70s, but his nationality is not yet known. Island newspaper Diario de Avisos said crew members had alerted air traffic control that a man on the plane required urgent medical attention.
After an emergency landing at Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport, the man was handed over to the emergency services, but despite immediate treatment on arrival, he was tragically pronounced dead on the runway.
The local paper said: "A flight covering the Tenerife South-Nottingham route has been diverted on Friday afternoon to Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport due to the indisposition of a passenger, who has finally died.
