Kensington Palace has asked for calm amid rumours about the Princess of Wales' health. The palace criticised the "madness of social media" after weeks of speculation about why Kate was taking a break from royal duties.

Royal aides were clear at the beginning that the Princess was not expected to return to public engagements until after Easter as she continues her recovery from abdominal surgery.

Kate's return was thrown into confusion yesterday when the Ministry of Defence announced she would appear at the Colonel's Review - the week before Trooping the Colour on Saturday, 8 June.Tickets were offered for sale online for what would have been the princess' first officially-announced public engagement since her surgery.

Just hours later, the Ministry of Defence had to remove any mention of the princess' involvement from their website after news of the June 8 run through was not approved by the palace.
