Manchester United not expected to follow Liverpool FC approach to furloughing staff

Manchester United are not expected to use a government scheme to furlough hundreds of non-playing staff, as some of their Premier League rivals have done.

On Saturday Liverpool became the latest club to announce they planned to take advantage of the government's Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, which sees the taxpayer fund 80% of the monthly wages of furloughed staff, up to £2,500 a month.

Newcastle, Bournemouth, Tottenham and Norwich have also furloughed staff under the scheme, which was designed to ease the financial pressure on small and medium-sized business during the economic crash that will be an inevitable side effect of the battle against COVID-19.
