Parents across England are sharing powerful images of their children's school shoes as they refuse to send them back into the classroom.

Pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 are returning today for the first time since the coronavirus lockdown was imposed on March 23.

But many parents are defying Prime Minister Boris Johnson by keeping their children at home as they are fearful it is too soon to send them back.

Hundreds have taken to social media to share photos of their children's school shoes on their front door mat with a message that reads: 'Not my child, school not safe, June too soon.' Others are penning poignant messages on their hands.
