Stagecoach bus drivers will soon stop giving change to passengers - after bosses bowed to pressure over coronavirus fears. The M.E.N reported at the weekend how drivers were uncomfortable handling cash in light of the deaths of London transport workers - with 34 frontline staff now known to have lost their lives to Covid-19.
Although the operator has asked passengers to use contactless payment where possible, they are still accepting cash and providing change.
A lack of consistency across operators had resulted in Arriva adopting the no-change policy much earlier in the pandemic, while Stagecoach had only committed to a 'trial' in Preston.
