What is a social bubble? The possible next step in coronavirus lockdown lifting

The UK is in the sixth week of the coronavirus lockdown, where people are told to stay home to save the NHS and save lives. People are currently only allowed to socialise with members of their own household.

But the UK is now heading towards phase two of the coronavirus lockdown, according to Prime Minister Boris Johnson. During phase two the strict lockdown measures will start to relax – but we don’t know when this is or what it would entail.

One of the ideas which is understood to be considered by the government is allowing people to have a “social bubble”. The rule would allow people to socialise outside their households in small “bubbles”, while further exit strategies were sorted out.
