Wuhan plane touches down in Sydney carrying mystery cargo after lockdown lifted

A plane transporting cargo from Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic, touched down late at night at Sydney Airport after lockdown was lifted in the Chinese city.

Airline workers and cargo handlers wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) were spotted unpacking the Suparna Airlines Boeing 747 after it landed at about 9.30pm (local time) in Australia.

One man wearing a hazmat suit was photographed carrying a small box from the plane to the terminal. Daily Mail Australia reports one crew member said they were delivering a "huge supply of face masks", which were taken to the Rydges Hotel at the airport.

A government spokeswoman was quoted as saying the aircraft was carrying approximately 90 tonnes of essential medical supplies,
