He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. The world is in the grip of the coronavirus pandemic. Around the globe there are now more than 200,000 confirmed cases with the international death toll nearing 9,000.

Here in the UK the number of cases is feared to be as high as 55,000 with more than 2,000 confirmed. Boris Johnson announced schools would be closing on Friday "until further notice" with provision made for the children of key workers to still be able to attend so their parents can work.
