A second coronavirus hotspot has broken out in the Midlands and the Health Secretary has warned officials "don't know why". Hospitals in the area have accounted for around 20 per cent of the 144 fatalities that have so far been recorded in the UK from the virus.
The Midlands has recorded 282 coronavirus cases as of Thursday night, behind only London and the South East of England, with 28 confirmed deaths in the West Midlands.
But Health Secretary Matt Hancock admitted they do not know why the hotspot has emerged. He told Sky News: "There is a hotspot, not as big as in London, but there is a hotspot in the Midlands.
