Sheriff officers took possession of the North Lanarkshire Council home of a blind and dying man - just a day after he was rushed into hospital for a blood transfusion.

James Montague, 58, told the Daily Record how his only wish is to die in the home his family has occupied for 61 years. But he was slapped with an eviction decree by North Lanarkshire Council after a protracted tenancy wrangle.

Despite James’s anguished brother Patrick and sister Elizabeth attending the eviction and appealing for a reprieve, due to his hospitalisation, a locksmith drilled out the locks and the house has been secured.Patrick, 62, said: “We’ve been at our wits’ end because of Jimmy’s health problems and the eviction is an absolute disaster for him.“But when he was rushed to hospital we’ve obviously had to deal with that too.
