The emergency services were responding to a serious crash in Droylsden tonight. Pictures from the scene showed two badly damaged cars and wreckage strewn across a road.
The crash happened on Fairfield Road earlier today (Saturday). The road was closed in both directions while the emergency services dealt with the incident.
Stagecoach buses tweeted about the incident from its Greater Manchester account, confirming the road closure and that one of its services, the number 7 bus through Tameside, was being diverted.
The message on X said: "Due to a Police Incident Fairfield Rd in Droylsden is currently closed in both directions. Our Stockport bound 7 service will be diverting using Manchester Rd , Ashton Old Rd and resuming normal route at Capital Rd obviously the reverse of this for Ashton bound journeys." Stagecoach added in another tweet: "Due to a Police Incident on Fairfield Road in Droylsden the road is blocked, services will divert via Ashton Old Rd, Manchester Rd and Capital Rd in both directions until the incident is resolved, please allow extra time for your journeys with us this evening." Greater Manchester Police has been approached for a comment.
