Former Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden has offered an update after he announced that he was having surgery this week. The actor took to social media earlier this week as he posted about being in hospital and going under the knife.

Matthew, known for having played David Metcalfe in the ITV soap from 2006 until his departure last year, announced to his followers that he was awaiting surgery on one of his knees.

Alongside a photo that appeared to show him lying in a hospital bed, the 43-year-old wrote: "Ready to go down for surgery on my knee." He didn't provide any further details about his health or what the surgery was, however, until after the procedure which he said went well.

In a later update, four hours after speaking about the surgery, Matthew shared a photo of his leg bandaged up whilst lying in a hospital bed.
