Four in ten Brit boozers could close as coronavirus shatters pub industry

Thousands of British pubs may have to call time for good as coronavirus lockdown decimates profits, it has been claimed. The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) is calling on the government to step in and bail out the flagging industry after pubs were shut in March.

Pub beer sales collapsed by 40% in March compared to a year ago and will be zero in April, highlighting the devastating impact of the shutdown, new figures show.

Businesses are now drowning in losses with many claiming to still be waiting on the financial lifelines promised by the government.

Research by the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) has found 75% of locals and breweries have not received a decision on whether they will get a loan.
