Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has spoken out about the toppling of the statue of Edward Colston in Bristol, and revealed he understands why.
Edward Colston was a slave trader for many years, contributing to the deaths of and torture of hundreds of thousands of African people.
He transported more than 80,000 men women and children from Africa, 19,000 of whom died, and the slaves were branded on their chests.
But because he later funded his money from the slave trade into the community, the city of Bristol erected a statue in his honour with a plaque that praised him as "one of the most virtuous and wise sons of the city".
