Cases of flu continue to soar in England as NHS hospitals battle five-times as many cases as last year. In Greater Manchester, the number of hospital admissions has risen two-and-a-half times in just 20 days.
There were 3,037 beds taken up by patients with flu in England’s NHS hospitals on Sunday December 15, according to the latest figures.
That’s up from 2,209 a week earlier and 1,251 on Sunday December 1. In Greater Manchester hospitals, the figure has risen from 49 patients on November 25, to 124 as of December 15.
The highest number of flu patients are in the Manchester and Trafford-based hospitals, with Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust hospitals treating 76 adult and five child patients as of December 15.
