Kate Middleton's abdominal surgery: Doctor explains why long stay in hospital is necessary

Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has undergone successful abdominal surgery and won't be back to Royal duties until Easter.

Kensington Palace announced that she will stay in hospital for "10 to 14 days" before going home to recover with her family, and it's "unlikely" she'll return to work before Easter.The Palace hasn't shared details about the surgery, but confirmed it wasn't cancer-related.

Dr Deborah Lee, from Dr Fox Online Pharmacy, told Express.co.uk why Kate might be in hospital for so long. She said: "For abdominal surgery, most people stay in the hospital for four to seven days.

After laparoscopic surgery [a type of keyhole surgery], this is reduced to two to four days." She added: "It very much depends on what exactly has been done.
