As this highly contagious virus continues to spread, UK cases have hit a record high, making it crucial to recognise the signs early and take appropriate measures, according to Niamh McMillan, Pharmacy Superintendent at Superdrug, SurreyLive reports.Niamh explains, “Symptoms of Norovirus can include severe nausea, diarrhoea, stomach cramps, and vomiting.
Norovirus is the most common type of virus that causes gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach and intestines. It’s often called the ‘winter vomiting bug’ due to its prevalence during colder months, but it can be contracted at any time of the year.”She adds, “Typically, the first signs of norovirus will appear between 12 hours to 8 days after exposure.
Ongoing diarrhoea and vomiting are the most common indicators, but you may also experience headaches and lightheadedness.”While it can be challenging to avoid catching norovirus, there are several small steps you can take to reduce your risk and alleviate symptoms. Keep your distance Norovirus spreads through contact with infected individuals, contaminated surfaces, as well as food and water.
