An NHS nurse has died of coronavirus, shortly after giving birth to her newborn baby. The unnamed 28-year-old delivered her baby through caesarean but tragically died shortly afterwards.

According to reports, her condition had initially appeared to improve before rapidly deteriorating. It is feared that her daughter may have also contracted the deadly Covid-19 infection.

Channel 4 News today reported that the baby girl is alive and being treated following an emergency c-section. Colleagues at the NHS trust where the mum worked have paid tribute to a "fabulous" nurse.

The trust's chief executive sent out an internal email about the tragedy, saying that the decision to perform an emergency caesarean was made as the mum's condition worsened.
