Strictly Come Dancing's Kai Widdrington flew to his father's bedside when his dad Tommy Widdrington suffered not one, but two strokes. The terrifying ordeal for the family began last week when Tommy, 53, a former footballer turned Aldershot Town manager, was taken urgently to Southend General hospital.
After a severe health scare which led to numerous scans and treatments for two ischaemic strokes – a critical condition caused by a blockage cutting off blood supply to the brain – Kai took to Instagram with a heartfelt thanks for all the support: "Thank you to everyone who has sent their messages of love and support." Aldershot Town shared an update on behalf of the Widdringtons saying, "Being of good health prior to Wednesday, and historically in general, his response to this episode and the initial treatment has been very encouraging.
He has made very good progress and is feeling and looking a lot better already." The positive news continued with Tommy returning home on Tuesday afternoon to start further rehabilitation, filled with gratitude for the warm wishes: "He is very appreciative of all the messages of encouragement he's received from all corners of the football world." While it remains uncertain when Tommy can make his comeback to managing, the family relayed his confidence in his team during his recovery: "He also wants The Shots fans to know he has total faith in the staff and the players in his absence and looks forward to being back in the dugout when he's deemed fit enough to do so", reports the Mirror.
The statement read: "Tommy's wife, Sharon, and immediate family have of course rallied and will continue to support his recovery and hope and have made this statement in the hope that it will quash any.
