Walker airlifted to hospital after falling 'significant distance' in Scots hills

A hillwalker was flown to hospital after a major rescue mission was launched when they fell whilst walking in Dumyat on Saturday.Emergency services, as well as Ochils Mountain Rescue Team, Maritime and Coastguard Agency and a doctor from Basics Scotland, worked together following the alarming incident on June, 16.It's believed the hiker had fallen a significant distance and had become stranded.Mountain rescuers worked with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to setup a number of technical rope rescue systems while Scottish Ambulance Service colleagues and the BASICS Scotland doctor from a neighbouring team treated the casualty.

The casualty was then extracted from the gully and winched aboard Maritime and Coastguard Agency Coastguard rescue helicopter 199 from Prestwick to be flown to hospital.Posting on Facebook about the rescue mission, Ochils Mountain Rescue Team said: "Our recip saws which were kindly donated by AHC Tool Hire made a huge difference today and were used to cut down an area or gorse where the casualty could be winched from saving a significant amount of time."If you find yourself in need of assistance in the hills or outdoor spaces dial 999, ask for Police then Mountain Rescue."
