Wayne Rooney has branded the public pressure on players 'a disgrace'. The former Manchester United player has hit out at the Government and the Premier League for placing the nation's top footballers in a "no-win situation" over the issue of pay cuts.
It comes after the Health Secretary Matt Hancock said during the government's daily coronavirus press briefing that top-flight footballer should "take a pay cut" to join the national effort to tackle the pandemic.
He said it would be the first thing that they could do to help "play their part". The Premier League's suggested 30 per cent wage cut or deferral strategy was discussed in a conference call with the Professional Footballers's Association and the League Managers Association on
