Zoe Ball has announced she will be taking a temporary break from her BBC Radio 2 show following a heart breaking cancer diagnosis in her family.The 53-year-old radio host shared the sad news with fans on Wednesday afternoon that her "brave" mother, Julie Peckham, 74, has sadly been diagnosed with cancer.Taking to Instagram, she told her followers that she may need some time off work to look after her beloved mum as a result.It comes after Zoe's absence from BBC Radio station's breakfast show in recent days with fellow presenter Gaby Roslin, 59 stepping in to cover.Zoe expressed gratitude towards Gaby in her post as she announced the news, the Mirror reports.She wrote in a post: "Heartbreakingly our beautiful Mama Julia has been diagnosed with cancer.
As many of you know from experience, these are extremely tough times. Mum is being incredibly brave. "My brother Jamie & I are completely in awe of the brilliant doctors, nurses & support teams looking after Mum.
Thank you. "Gratitude to our families & our extended family & friends at home & at work for their support at this time." Zoe added: "Sending out love to people reading this who are battling cancer, or awaiting diagnosis & also to the folk looking after their dear ones who are poorly. "I'm trying to be at work on breakfast as often as I can but occasionally need to be home with my Mama.
Thanks to Gaby for stepping in. Lots of love." The presenter's post included photos of Julia, with one showing her seemingly receiving treatment for her cancer.
