Queen Camilla delayed her return to England on Thursday as she headed to Balmoral to be with the King ahead of his surgery next week.As we reported on Wednesday, King Charles will be admitted to hospital for corrective treatment for an enlarged bowel.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “In common with thousands of men each year, The King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate. “His Majesty’s condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure.

The King’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation.” It followed the news that The Princess of Wales has undergone abdominal surgery after being admitted to hospital on Tuesday and will not return to royal duties until after Easter.

The Queen had been set to head back to London after a visit to an Aberdeen art gallery on Thursday but, as reports Aberdeen Live, she cancelled her flight to help nurse the 75-year-old monarch at his Scottish home, Birkhall, on the famous Aberdeenshire estate. The king had been due to attend meetings at his Ayrshire base Dumfries House but cancelled them on the advice of medics as he takes a break from public duties before his operation.
