Coronavirus: Haunting memorial to NHS heroes of shoes that 'can never be filled again'

Haunting images show shoes up lined on a lawn outside a hospital in tribute to NHS workers who have died during the coronavirus pandemic.

The shoes were placed outside Southend Hospital along with a sign reading, 'these shoes can never be filled again RIP'. The emotional tribute was set up in time for a minute's silence to commemorate key workers who had died with coronavirus.

At least 90 NHS workers are reported to have died in the last month, in addition to transport employees and other key workers.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who has just returned to work after recovering from Covid-19, joined the countrywide commemoration, which the Unison union, the Royal College of Midwives and the Royal of College of Nursing had campaigned for.
