Narendra Damodardas Modi (born 17 September 1950) is an Indian politician serving as the 14th and current Prime Minister of India since 2014. He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 and is the Member of Parliament for Varanasi. Modi is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist volunteer organisation. He is the first prime minister outside of the Indian National Congress to win two consecutive terms with a full majority and the second to complete five years in office after Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
COVID-19: Sonia Gandhi writes to PM Modi, supports 21-day lockdown
NEW DELHI : Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggesting several economic relief measures and supported the 21-day nationwide lockdown to stem the spread of highly contagious coronavirus (COVID-19).
In her letter to Modi, Congress president said that the three-week lockdown announced by the Union government is a “welcome step" but a lot more needs to be done to cushion the lives and livelihoods of people -- particularly the vulnerable sections. “The 21-day ‘Nation-wide Lockdown’ announced by you as a measure to fight the Coronavirus is a welcome step.
