Desperate relatives of a Kelloholm granny tried to save her from being mauled by her dog in her garden. But the animal turned on them after leaving its owner with horrific injuries.

Emergency services were called to McConnel Street in the village around 6.25pm on Saturday following reports the woman was being attacked by her pet.

She has reportedly undergone hours of reconstructive surgery following the terrifying incident. Family members posted on social media how the dog went to chase a cat, but turned on its owner when she tried to stop him.

The dog is then believed to have tried to attack relatives who rushed to her aid. One said: “He went to chase a cat. He was in the garden with her.
