Hungary star Barnabus Varga has been pictured recovering in hospital from his horror clash in the Euro 2024 meeting with Scotland last Sunday. In the second half of the game in Stuttgart, the 29-year old was involved in a horrible collision with Dark Blues stopper Angus Gunn that left him unconscious for a few minutes.

The match was then delayed by several minutes before Vargas was taken off the field on a stretcher. Spurred on by their teammate's absence, the Hungarians then rallied to strike the killer blow in stoppage time, with Kevin Csoboth's winning goal keeping their hopes of progressing out of Group A alive while simultaneously dumping Scotland out of the tournament. After being taken to hospital, Varga had to have surgery done on his face after breaking several bones.

His wife Laura Skrapits took to social media on Sunday to confirm that the surgery had gone to plan, writing: "Thank you for your kind, supportive messages.

Barni is over the surgery. A little rest is waiting for him but he'll be fine. And now an image of the player on his hospital bed has been shared after he was paid a visit by Hungary boss Marco Rossi and international teammate Endre Botka.
