Having gorgeous lashes can really boost your confidence.Whether you're slathering on mascara, applying falsies to your lids or getting semi permanent extensions done, there's something sassy and fun about fluttering your eyelashes. But before you rush out to book an appointment at your local salon, it's worth doing a bit of research first.

An eye doctor has taken to TikTok to warn against the "really trendy" beauty trend. In a viral video, Dr. Glaucomflecken said: "Can I just say, as an ophthalmologist, whose job it is to protect the eyeball and its many rods and cones - I hate them."He then went on to divulge why false lashes can cause havoc on your eye health.

To demonstrate, he shared a clip of a woman with really thick eyelashes. The TikToker warned that the extra large eyelashes were "bisecting the pupil", which can make you lose your "superior visual field" due to the obstruction they cause. The medical professional also worries about how hygienic it is to be sticking extensions onto your lids – as lots of gunk and debris can get stuck.

He said: "All this gunk can cause irritation, redness, itching, swelling of the eyelids which can be really uncomfortable for people".You're not even fully safe if you stick to mascara – as this can pose a few problems too.
