UK coronavirus dead toll rockets to 4,313 as over 700 die in just 24 hours

The UK's coronavirus death toll has soared to 4,313, a massive increase of 708 deaths since the previous day. Among those who have died include two NHS nurses in their 30s, who leave behind six children.

The latest figures come after the government vows to carry out 100,000 coronavirus tests a day by the end of April to contain the spread of the pandemic.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced a testing plan – which will include immunity tests and potential passports for people tested to be immune– during the government’s daily press conference on Thursday.

For now, with the virus still to peak , it is unlikely to lift its stringent Government sanctioned lockdown rules will be relaxed until the end of May.
